The Key To Changing Behavior Is To Provide Opportunities  June 1, 2020
Provide opportunities for your student to feel good about himself.  Help him find what makes him happy.  Does throwing his pencil on the floor make him happy?  Does yelling at others bring him Joy?  Usually these kinds of behaviors are less than satisfying and can cause the loss of privileges or even have punitive results.

On the other hand, does feeling confident and proud make him contented?  Does caring for others make him feel fine?  Does finishing a job bring him satisfaction?  These behaviors generally produce much better outcomes.  Not only do they often bring material rewards and an increase in privileges, they make you feel, well, happy!  Once your student realizes what he really wants, help him by taking small steps and setting easily attained goals in order to achieve it.
